Cappuccino, cortado or flat white? A coffee guide for Prenzlauer Berg

2026-10-14 · Poolside Berlin

Iced coffee drink with cream and cocoa at Poolside in Prenzlauer Berg

Our chalkboard on Schönhauser Allee 43A lists many names: espresso, macchiato, cortado, flat white, cappuccino, latte. All of them start with the same espresso, made from the Peruvian single origin we chose in 2012. The difference is the milk: how much, how warm and how much foam. Here is a short, honest guide with our real prices.

One coffee, many drinks

The café has been here since 2009, first as Nothaft Café, now as Poolside. Since 2012 the same Peruvian coffee goes into our grinder: round, chocolatey, nutty, with mild acidity. More on its origin on our coffee page.

The drinks and prices

  • Espresso: the pure base. 2.60 €, double 3.20 €.
  • Americano: espresso lengthened with hot water. 3.20 €, double 3.80 €.
  • Espresso macchiato: espresso with a spoon of milk foam. 2.80 €, double 3.40 €.
  • Cortado: usually espresso and warm milk in roughly equal parts, little foam. 3.50 €.
  • Flat white: more milk, a thin silky layer of foam, coffee still up front. 4.20 €.
  • Cappuccino: the classic with a thicker foam cap. 3.90 €, double 4.70 €.
  • Latte: lots of warm milk, the mildest of the range. 4.50 €.

Every milk drink comes with oat milk for 0.30 € extra. Our bakery is fully vegan, so an oat cappuccino goes well with a slice of vegan cake.

Autumn special and more

On the specials board right now: the Apple Crumble Latte for 5.90 € (double espresso, apple pie syrup, salted caramel cream, shortbread crumble). Also Mocha 5.30 €, Hazelnut Hot Chocolate 5.70 €, Matcha Latte 5.70 €, Chai Latte 4.90 € and Golden Latte 4.50 €. All prices are on the café menu.

Coffee and focaccia

Daily from 13:00 to 16:00 our Lunch Deal pairs a focaccia with a cappuccino or cortado for 8.90 € (café only). For offices we bake focaccia in 15 kinds: see focaccia catering Berlin or order online.
